The registration requirements

The registration requirements vary depending on whether you want to apply for a bachelor's degree, a master's degree or a doctorate.

Bachelor's degree registration pre-requisites

To register for a bachelor's degree program, you must possess at the very least a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years of age and be employed in some organization. If you are not employed, you must be able to prove that you have access to an organizational environment. This is because the University of Pheonix pays a lot of stress on practically applying concepts that you learn during coursework in an organizational setting.

For those who are interested in a bachelor's degree in Nursing, you would also be required to have 1-year full-time work experience in the health care field, and have a minimum GPA of 2.0 to be considered for the program.

Master's degree registration pre-requisites

To be considered for master's degree program, you would need an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institute, or a comparable degree from a recognized institution outside of the United States, with a minimum GPA of 2.5. In addition, you would also have to possess three years of work experience, and be employed.

Doctoral degree registration pre-requisites

First and foremost, to be considered for a doctoral degree, you would need a master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. You are also expected to have three years of significant full-time work experience.

Also note that unlike masters and bachelor degree programs, the doctoral program mandates students to fulfill a residency requirement of a few days every year, through out the duration of the course.

Financial Aid

The University of Pheonix offers several great options for financing your education. It participates in many financial aid programs, including federal grants and several loan programs, with low student-friendly interest rates.

You are also given the option of paying for courses one at a time, instead of paying annually all at once. This can help ease pressures a lot for those who fail to get financial aid and have to finance themselves through their jobs.

Credit for Work Experience

Depending upon the type of degree program selected and the nature of your work experience, it would be possible for you to get credit for your work. The University typically assigns an enrollment counselor, who would be able to work out the best options for you if you have legitimate work experience, that is related to the degree program that you are going to apply for.

You could also get residency credits. If you have had professional training or have served in the military, you might also be able to convert this experience into academic credits.
