University of Georgia Distance Learning Programs

The University of Georgia Distance Learning division offers several online degree and certificate courses to students who are interested in earning academic credit through distance learning methods and technologies.

All the distance learning programs offered by the University are recognized by the US Department of Education and are accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Since SACS is recognized in most of the southern states in the country, academic credit earned by completing coursework from the Distance Learning division at the University of Georgia can be used by students to fulfill degree requirements in several reputed and accredited universities.

Of course, if you are a professional, you can simply enroll for a course to learn more about your subject of interest, without leaving your job, and at your own time and pace.

Course registration procedure

Registering for a University of Georgia distance learning course is very simple. You would not have to be admitted to the University, if you just want to register for courses. All that you have to do is to select a course, see that you fulfill all the academic pre-requisites for the course, and email or fax an application form along with the tuition fees.

You can also submit the registration form and pay the course fee online. Once you have submitted your registration form, you can expect your registration to be processed within three to four days. Also note that you can register for courses at any time throughout the year.

Please note carefully that the distance learning division at the University of Georgia does not offer degree programs. Some of the more popular courses include:

Course delivery

University of Georgia distance learning students are provided access to two different methods for learning and interacting with course instructors: WebCT and ALISSA. WebCT is a sophisticated online course management system that would enable you to access your course materials online by logging in to a secure system with a user name and password that would be provided to you at the time of registering for a course.

You would be able to read and complete assignments within the WebCT system itself. ALISSA, on the other hand, was created by the University itself, and while it is similar to WebCT, it has recently become the more popular of the two systems currently being used by the university.

Student services

University of Georgia students have access to GALILEO (Georgia Library Learning Online), as well as to various useful resources including UGA Libraries, Computer Services, Learning Disability Services and Tutorial Services.

Financial aid

Unfortunately, University of Georgia Distance Learning students are not eligible for financial aid directly from the university, so you would have to finance your education from independent financial agencies.
