Pennsylvania State distance learning is a pioneering educational program. It founded one of the nation's first correspondence study programs, in 1892. In 1998, the University launched its 25th campus -- the Penn State World Campus, known as "Penn State | Online". More than 50 Penn State Distance Learning programs are delivered to diverse learners around the world.

Penn State Outreach is the nation's largest outreach organization, and Penn State World Campus is a part of it. Penn State Outreach works in collaboration with the University's campuses and colleges. It helps individuals, communities and organizations to deal with the social, economic, cultural and educational issues that they face.
Outreach offers more than 2000 programs and services every year in collaboration with the academic colleges. Students and organizations can gain access to University degrees, courses, conferences and resources through Penn State Outreach.
