Old Dominion University, in Norfolk, is one of Virginia's premier institutions of higher learning. It was founded in 1930, as a Division of the College of William and Mary. Old Dominion University has been involved in distance learning programs, delivered by technology, since the mid -1980s. The TELETECHNET distance learning network consists of nearly 50 locations throughout Virginia, Washington State, Arizona, the Bahamas, and ships of the US Navy deployed all over the world.
In the past, the course delivery was via synchronous interactive satellite, but now other modes of delivery have also been adopted. These include the Internet, two-way video, CD-ROM and streaming video.
