New York University Distance Learning Programs

The New York University Distance Learning Center offers several online degree and certificate courses to professionals and students in more than 25 countries worldwide. Founded in 1831, New York University is one of the largest private universities in the United States, comprising of 14 schools, colleges, and centers of learning.

The New York University online is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Individual courses offered by the New York University Distance University Learning Center are further accredited by independent specialized accrediting agencies.

Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Tourism Management, Bachelor of Science in Sports Management and Leisure Studies, Master of Science in Hospitality Industry Studies, Master of Science in Sports Business and Master of Science in Tourism and Travel Management conducted by The Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism and Sports Management, in collaboration with the New York University Distance Learning Center.

Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, Anthropology Concentration, Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, Psychology Concentration, Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, Sociology Concentration and Bachelor of Arts in Technical Writing, all of which are offered by the Paul McGhee Liberal Arts Program division.

Master of Arts in Graphic Communications Management and Technology and Master of Science in Digital Imaging and Design offered by the Design, Digital Arts, and Film division of the New York University Distance Learning Center.

Admission procedures

To be enrolled as a New York University distance learning student, you would have to file an online application form that is available at the University website. If you are applying for a graduate degree program, you will need to have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Note that unlike several other online universities, the New York University mandates that all graduate applicants for online courses take a standard test such as the GRE or GMAT, which are administered by ETS.

Once you've taken the test, you must make arrangements with ETS to send your scores directly to the New York University Distance Learning Center. Note that if you are currently pursuing a graduate certificate and have a GPA score of 3.0 or above, you would not have to take these qualifying exams, for admission into the corresponding master's program at the University.

Online course delivery

All distance learning courses are delivered through the Virtual College, which is a sophisticated online delivery system, pioneered by the university. The course delivery mechanism is student-centered, well organized, and incorporates features that encourage high levels of interactivity with faculty members and classmates.

Online lectures involve a mix of audio and visual tools, including an online conferencing tool that allows for real-time discussions, instructor-led sessions with PowerPoint slides, a live chat system and a threaded discussion board system to further enhance the learning experience.

Financial aid

To apply for financial aid, the university recommends that you submit a FAFSA application form. You can also apply for loans by visiting the website for the New York University Office of Financial Aid. To be considered for financial aid, you must be officially admitted to NYU and be enrolled in one of the degree programs offered by the University.

If you are already enrolled as a student and have completed a few courses, make sure that your course grades are good, as that would be considered while reviewing your financial aid application form.

In addition, the Financial Aid Office of the New York University Distance Learning Center also assists students with loan packages, scholarships, and monthly payment plans. So, be sure to assess all these options when you apply for financial aid.
